Overview

What is pathology lab management software?

Pathology lab management software handles the paperwork around laboratory tests: matching tests to patients, recording results, producing reports and delivering them. In a busy hospital lab, that paperwork, not the testing, is usually the bottleneck.

In Swastik HMS the pathology module is part of the hospital management system, so patients are registered once and lab reports sit on the same record as their OPD visit and admission.

  • Bill number, lab number and referring doctor
  • Main departments, sub-departments and test codes
  • Structured forms with normal ranges
  • Printable reports and registration slips
  • Monthly, category-wise and doctor-wise reports
Features

Pathology management features

Everything a hospital laboratory needs, from registration to reporting.

Pathology Laboratory

Lab registration links each test to the patient’s OPD record. Results are entered into structured forms, and patients find their reports on this website with the mobile number they registered with, without queuing at a collection window.

Lab registration

Bill number, lab number, referring doctor and requested tests, linked to the OPD registration.

Test catalogue

Main departments, sub-departments, test codes and lab doctors are managed by administrators.

Structured result entry

Forms for biochemistry (LFT, KFT, lipid profile, electrolytes, HbA1c, CRP and more), CBC, urine, stool, serology and culture.

Analyzer uploads

Attach the CBC analyzer’s printout instead of typing the values again.

Print-ready reports

Reports and registration slips print directly from the browser.

Online report lookup

Patients look up their reports on this website with their registered mobile number.

Report API for apps

A read-only, token-protected JSON API gives a patient app reports with normal ranges. Tokens can be rotated.

How it works

The lab workflow

  1. Lab registration

Tests are registered with bill and lab numbers against the patient’s registration.

  2. Sample collection

Samples are collected and matched to the registration.

  3. Result entry

Technicians enter results in structured forms, or attach the CBC analyzer printout.

  4. Report

Reports print directly from the browser on any printer.

  5. Online lookup

Patients find their reports with their registered mobile number.

  6. Lab reports

Monthly, category, location and doctor-visit reports for management.

Tests covered by structured result entry

  • Biochemistry: about 35 parameters including glucose, LFT, KFT, lipid profile, electrolytes, HbA1c and CRP
  • Haematology: CBC by form entry or analyzer printout upload
  • Clinical pathology: urine and stool examination
  • Serology and culture reports

Direct interfacing with lab analyzers is not part of the standard module and can be built through custom development.

Online reports and a report API for patient apps

Patients look up their reports on the For patients page using the mobile number given at registration, with no account needed. For mobile apps, a read-only JSON API returns reports and normal ranges, protected by API tokens that can be rotated. Read more in pathology lab software: from registration to online reports.

Lab reports and ABDM

Each lab report becomes an ABDM care context automatically, so patients can link it to their ABHA and share it as a FHIR diagnostic report with their consent.

ABDM & ABHA

ABDM integrated, out of the box

Swastik HMS is integrated with ABDM for milestone M1 (ABHA) and milestone M2 (Health Information Provider): ABHA at the counter, automatic care contexts for visits, admissions and reports, and consent-based sharing of encrypted FHIR records.

M1

ABHA at the counter

Create and verify ABHA numbers, log patients in with ABHA, and register them with Scan & Share.

M2

Health Information Provider

Visits, admissions and reports become records patients link to their ABHA and share with consent.

HPR · HFR

Health registries

Doctors linked to the Health Professional Registry and the facility to the Health Facility Registry.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do patients get their lab reports online?

They open the For patients page and enter the mobile number they gave at registration. Their pathology reports open in the browser and can be printed or saved.

Does it interface directly with lab analyzers?

The standard module lets technicians attach the CBC analyzer printout. Direct analyzer interfacing can be built through custom development.

Can a standalone diagnostic lab use it?

Yes. The pathology module can be deployed on its own, with registration and online reports.

Which tests have structured result forms?

Biochemistry (about 35 parameters), CBC, urine, stool, serology and culture.

Can a mobile app show our lab reports?

Yes. A read-only, token-protected JSON API returns reports with normal ranges for a patient app.
